Earlier today I was in the vicinity of Value Village, and I noticed that the Charles Smart Donair buidling has been completely demolished. I have a vague memory of *maybe* noticing at some point that it had closed, but now I know for sure. It was a bit of a sad time for me, not because I love their donairs (in fact, I've never set foot in the place), but because I used to love the sign outside of the restaurant. Which for years, rather than boasting "Best Donairs in Town" or some equivalent, simply stated "Charles Smart Donair: Federally Inspected".
Sorry, no picture of said sign. But it seems they may have had another sign with a more enticing slogan...

That area appears to be suffering.
ReplyDeleteFirst Honest Murs, now Charles Smart. Is the Cheese Factory next?
It's only a matter of time, says this observer.
